Rules of Karwa Chauth Fast :-
- Married women observe a day-long fast, starting from sunrise and ending after they sight the moon. The fast is rigorous, including abstaining from food and water during this period.
विवाहित महिलाएं दिन भर का उपवास रखती हैं, जो सूर्योदय से शुरू होता है और चंद्रमा को देखने के बाद समाप्त होता है। व्रत कठोर होता है, जिसमें इस अवधि के दौरान भोजन और पानी से परहेज करना शामिल है। - Before sunrise , women consume a pre-dawn meal known as ” Sargi. “ This meal usually consists of foods like fruits, nuts, sweets, and other special dishes. It is traditionally given by the mother-in-law.

Evening ritual before breaking the fast ( उपवास खोलने से पहले शाम की रस्म विधि ):
- Women participate in a group prayer where they listen to the Karva Chauth Kathaor a narrative that tells the story associated with Karva Chauth.
महिलाएं एक सामूहिक प्रार्थना में भाग लेती हैं जहां वे करवा चौथ कथा सुनती हैं जो करवा चौथ से जुड़ी कहानी बताती है। - In the evening, women gather with other fasting women in their community for the Karwa Chauth puja (ritual). They bring a plate with items like a Karwa (an earthen pot), water, flowers, a diya (lamp), and some food grains.

पूजा और चंद्रमा के दर्शन के दौरान महिलाएं अपने पतियों की लंबी उम्र, कल्याण और समृद्धि के लिए प्रार्थना करती हैं।और वह अपने पति के पैर छूकर आशीर्वाद लेती है जो एक परंपरा का हिस्सा है। - Husbands play a role in supporting their wives during the day-long fast. They often participate in the evening puja and share the first meal after the fast is broken.

The Legend of Queen Veeravati ( रानी वीरावती की कथा ) :
Long ago, in a prosperous kingdom, there was a queen named Veeravati. She was devoted to her husband and observed a strict fast on Karwa Chauth for his well-being.One day, as she observed the fast, Queen Veeravati faced extreme hardship due to the rigorous nature of the fast. The queen became weak and fainted. Concerned about her well-being, the queen’s seven brothers couldn’t bear to see her suffer and decided to end her fast.
बहुत समय पहले, एक समृद्ध राज्य में वीरावती नाम की एक रानी थी। वह अपने पति के प्रति समर्पित थी और उनकी सलामती के लिए करवा चौथ का सख्त व्रत रखती थी। एक दिन, जब रानी वीरावती ने व्रत रखा, तो व्रत की कठोर प्रकृति के कारण उन्हें अत्यधिक कठिनाई का सामना करना पड़ा। रानी कमजोर हो गयी और बेहोश हो गयी. उनकी भलाई के बारे में चिंतित रानी के सातों भाई उनकी तकलीफ़ नहीं देख सके और उन्होंने उनका अनशन ख़त्म करने का फैसला किया।
Unaware of the consequences, the brothers created a false moon by lighting a fire on a mountain. They convinced Queen Veeravati that the moon had risen, and it was time to break her fast.The moment the queen ate, news arrived that her husband, the king, had met with a severe accident and was critically ill. Heartbroken, Queen Veeravati rushed to her husband’s side.
परिणामों से अनजान, भाइयों ने एक पहाड़ पर आग जलाकर एक झूठा चंद्रमा बनाया। उन्होंने रानी वीरावती को आश्वस्त किया कि चाँद निकल आया है और उसका व्रत तोड़ने का समय हो गया है। जैसे ही रानी ने खाना खाया, खबर आई कि उसका पति, राजा, एक गंभीर दुर्घटना का शिकार हो गया है और गंभीर रूप से बीमार है। रानी वीरावती दुखी होकर अपने पति के पास पहुंची।
On the way, she encountered the goddess Parvati, who revealed the deceit and explained the reason behind the false moon. The goddess then guided Queen Veeravati on how to observe Karwa Chauth more authentically.Following the guidance of Parvati, Queen Veeravati observed Karwa Chauth with utmost dedication and sincerity. Eventually, her husband recovered from his illness.
रास्ते में उनकी मुलाकात देवी पार्वती से हुई, जिन्होंने धोखे का खुलासा किया और झूठे चंद्रमा के पीछे का कारण बताया। तब देवी ने रानी वीरावती को करवा चौथ का अधिक प्रामाणिक रूप से पालन करने के बारे में मार्गदर्शन किया। पार्वती के मार्गदर्शन के बाद, रानी वीरावती ने अत्यंत समर्पण और ईमानदारी के साथ करवा चौथ का पालन किया। आख़िरकार, उसका पति अपनी बीमारी से ठीक हो गया।
This legend is often narrated to emphasize the importance of the Karwa Chauth fast and the belief that observing it sincerely can bring blessings and well-being to one’s husband. While the story may not be found in ancient scriptures, it has become an integral part of the cultural narrative associated with Karwa Chauth. The festival, therefore, not only has cultural significance but also carries the moral lesson of devotion, sacrifice, and the strength of spousal bonds
